Dysport is created using the same neurotoxin used in BOTOX. This injectable is specially designed to reduce the appearance of glabellar lines between the brows, which are often referred to as frown lines. These signs of aging tend to progress over time and are difficult to address with traditional cosmetic treatments.
When receiving Dysport, patients find that these lines greatly diminish or even disappear. Treatment sessions usually last only 15-25 minutes and involve a series of easy, painless injections in the area around the brow. There is little to no downtime, and the results usually last as long as 5 months.
How does Dysport work?
Like other neuromodulators, Dysport improves the appearance of fine lines in the face by relaxing and blocking the movement of muscles. A small, highly concentrated amount is injected directly into the muscle, causing it to relax by preventing contractions. Over time, wrinkles in the target area are reduced while other regions that are not injected with fluids are also protected from damage.
As results typically last up to 5 months, patients usually come back for follow-up appointments. Repeat treatments elicit results that are just as strong as the initial procedure, allowing patients to maintain their social lives with minimal downtime following the treatment.
Who is a candidate?
Dysport is a prescription injection that provides a temporary reduction in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). It is typically recommended for patients under the age of 65.
Some additional uses of Dysport as dictated by the FDA include:
- Cervical Dystonia - for adults that are suffering from cervical dystonia.
- Upper Limb Spasticity - for adult patients that are dealing with upper limb spasticity
- Lower Limb Spasticity in Pediatric Patients - for patients that have lower limb spasticity (for pediatric patients that are two years old and up).

The exact placement of each injection will be determined ahead of time to ensure that the results are in line with the patient’s desired outcome.
What is the recovery like?
Recovery time from Dysport is notoriously quick, with patients being able to resume their normal activities just four hours after the treatment. In the first few days, patients experience ‘muscle weakening’ in the treatment area, but this will pass. Full results will not set in until 2 weeks following the procedure.
