The Surgery
Dr. Lewis will incorporate a blend of techniques during your procedure to ensure an ideal aesthetic outcome. The surgery can be done under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation depending on its complexity.
Liposuction
Dr. Lewis will begin your surgery by performing liposuction to remove unwanted fat, while sculpting a more defined and contoured chest appearance.
If your condition is exclusively due to excess fat, liposuction may be the only procedure you need. However, if you also have loose skin and unwanted glandular development, you may require surgical excision as well.
Surgical excision
Once your unwanted fat has been removed via liposuction, Dr. Lewis will address loose skin and excess glandular development via surgical excision. He will remove this unwanted tissue through discreetly placed incisions along the edge of the areola or hidden within the natural creases of the chest.
Nipple adjustment
After your liposuction and surgical excision are complete, your nipple may need to be resized or repositioned to a new, more natural-looking location on the chest.
What to expect after surgery
You should plan for several days of downtime as you recover. Most of our patients can return to sedentary work within about five days and strenuous exercise within five weeks.
As you heal, you can expect some swelling, tightness, sensitivity and pain in the treatment area. Swelling can be minimized by wearing a compression garment, and you can manage any discomfort by taking your prescribed pain medication.
Life after male breast reduction
After your male breast reduction with Dr. Lewis, you can look forward to a flat, firm and masculine chest appearance. You should notice an immediate improvement in your chest contour and your results will continue to progress as your swelling subsides.
Any scarring in the area will fade with time until it is virtually imperceptible. Your final results should endure for quite a while as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle moving forward. It’s important to note that any weight gain, steroid use and certain medical conditions can cause a recurrence of your gynecomastia.
